Pencil Case

The best and worst thing about running your own business is that you get to do everything. With all the cool fun stuff, there is also all the accounting and admin. It seems wherever I go, my old buddy MS Excel is always waiting with un-fun jobs…

As a distraction from Excel and the reconciliation of November's tax receipts, I decided to repurpose an old linen top my partner had committed to the ragbag.

I’m the sort of OCD person that likes to have stuff organised (apart from my accounting), so I can never have enough pencil cases to put stuff in. The linen, as it does, had aged beautifully and developed a great texture and colour. After a bit of mucking about, I broke the top down and cut out some panels. A big black chunky zip from my days working with canvas and we were good to go.

I think it turned out quite nicely. Although it was a small top I still have a bunch of fabric left which I would like to use for a small bag (I think). It has also inspired me to get online and out to the Op Shops to try and find more old linen. The fabric just gets so much more interesting with age and use.
